What is a Smart Category?
A Smart Category is a rule-based Contact Category that dynamically matches Siteflex Contacts based on the rules that are set when the Category is built.
With plenty of options when setting up rules, you are able to filter for contacts associated with: category, detail field, product, etc. Just specify the conditions and Siteflex will automatically add matching Contacts to the Smart Category.
Perhaps you'd like to retrieve a group of Contacts who have purchased a certain Product? Contacts who have or have not received a Mailout? Contacts who have filled in a specific form on the website? There are plenty of targeting possibilities.
Where can a Smart Category be used?
A Smart Category can be used with our Siteflex Mail module, just like a normal Category, to target specific groups of Contacts for email marketing and mailouts. Smart Categories can be used for Personalisation (or Login-required areas / Intranet) purposes in a similar fashion, just the same as normal Contact Categories.
It's also worth considering that by chaining Smart Categories some sophisticated Contact targeting can be achieved. In all relevant areas of Siteflex, Smart Categories makes talking to the right people in your website's community even more flexible.
Creating a Smart Category
A Smart Category is created from Contact Category screen similar to other Contact Categories. The parent for your new Smart Category should be set to Smart Category. Enter the required fields as normal, and then when your new Category is saved the rule list will appear on the screen which allows you to set up your Smart Category rule criteria.
