  • Siteflex for Designers: Listing your Siteflex products is now more flexible

    16 June, 2010

Crafting up a Siteflex page about your latest product promotion? If you have your products online via the Siteflex Products module, normally you'd probably link to the relevant page within your Products structure.

Now you can list your products right within your Siteflex page, based on a Product Category, Manufacturer, Filter or a cross-section group of up to three Product Filters.

This new selection of Siteflex components is intended to be a visual call to action for your website's users to enter into your Products system proper, or to show a small limited selection of products rather than needed the user to click further into the website.

Product Codes can be used to create unique pages while using the standard Siteflex Products module, saving you timeProduct Codes can be used to create unique pages while using the standard Siteflex Products module, saving you time

For advanced users, the Siteflex content codes are:

    • prod_list_cat=CAT,NUM
    • prod_list_manuf=MANUF,NUM
    • prod_list_filter=FILTER,NUM
    • prod_list_filters=FILTER,FILTER,FILTER,NUM

Some of the same topics come up again and again when dealing with websites being freshly implemented onto the Siteflex platform. One of the topics that have been coming up a few times recently is that of the Reset button on Forms, and just how useful (or useless?) it is.

A Form's reset button sits dangerously close to the Submit button, sometimes even when styled up nicely

The Reset risks? Instantly removing valuable Form data that has been input by the user, completely by mistake. Often buttons have not been custom styled and so sit directly next to the Submit button - a dangerous spot! Especially with larger forms, the risk increases more still. Anytime something like this goes wrong, form abandonment is a strong possibility, which is not something anybody wants.

From a usability perspective, the Reset button (sitting next to the Submit button) is a choice and a chance for confusion, a misunderstanding or a mistake to be made. Not to mention this situation causes a slow down in the form submission while the user considers the choice.

The Reset benefits? Easy to start over on a form given mistakes. Umm... possibly a small feeling of security?

With this in mind, Siteflex forms no longer have a Reset button by default.

The Form Reset button is gone but not forgotten, they can be enabled on your Siteflex website's forms in Site Settings for those that are keen to use them.

  • CeBIT Australia wraps up for 2010

CeBIT 2010, Darling Harbour, Sydney AustraliaWe're back from the excitement this week that has been taking place down in Sydney's Darling Harbour. Once again the WebCiety corner of the CeBIT show floor had a great positive buzz, with plenty of great speakers and panel discussions taking place over the 3 day event.

It was great to meet some fresh faces and bump into some familiar ones during the event, and open up some great conversations.

Director Mark Kofahl took the WebCiety stage several times during the event, to moderate, as a panel discussion member and speak on the topic of Selecting a Web CMS.

Some great news on the CeBIT front was also announced, that being Sydney will host the event until at least 2013! Plenty more cool stuff on the horizon for Darling Harbour, no doubt, and great that Sydney can continue to showcase such a great International event.

We also took note of Amazon's Dr Werner Vogels speaking on the topic of cloud computing services, a topic close to the heart of Siteflex. He compared private clouds, which are owned and operated internally by businesses, to generators used by private companies to make electricity before the availability of public utilities at the turn of the century.

Some of the Siteflex team can be seen on the CeBIT show floor in the CeBIT 2010 Siteflex Photo Gallery.

And yes, we managed to get our CeBIT WebCiety booth signage back to the office this year! Thanks CeBIT :)

The Siteflex team has been working extra hard in anticipation of CeBIT Australia which is taking place this week. With promising reviews from the main floor over at CeBIT in Hannover Germany earlier this year, the event is sure to impress.

Siteflex will be appearing at CeBIT in Darling Harbour this week in the Webciety area Monday 24th-Wednesday 26th May. There will be limited staff in the office during this period, but definitely all bases will be covered. Feel free to come by and visit us. There will be some exciting talks going on, both in the larger halls at the Exhibition Centre, and in the Exhibition Hall itself where we will be.
