Siteflex CMS - Pre-Optimised for Search Engines
Tweet This2 December, 2008

The Internet is the fastest growing sales channel and it is now critical to have a strong online presence to ensure continued success for your business.
Having a search optimised website will increase the chance of your website showing in search results for your target keywords. A search optimised website greatly reduces the costs for online customer acquisition, with users finding your website through natural 'organic' listings as opposed to paid listings using services such as Google AdWords.
Siteflex has been built to provide your website with the foundations for a strong online presence, with many core features developed to help you optimise your website to achieve better results in search engines.
1. Use of both HTML Sitemaps and XML Sitemaps auto-submitted to Google
HTML Sitemaps provide users with a complete list of the pages within your website. This is particularly handy for search engines also, as they are able to follow the hyperlinks on your sitemap to better understand your website architecture and ensure they index all your pages.
XML Sitemaps in Siteflex are automatically generated and submitted to Google weekly.
2. Ability to manually edit page title tags
The
3. Easily set H1, H2, and H3 headings
Use H1, H2 and H3 headings throughout your Siteflex pages. This will help indicate to search engines the structure of the page content and the general theme for content in the paragraphs below each heading tag.
4. Ability to set META description and keyword for your website pages
META Tags should be set for every page in Siteflex. The META Description allows you to influence the description of your page in search results pages. The META Keywords tag is less important, however it can assist by influencing some crawlers by letting them know what keywords you think relate to the content on the page.
5. Use descriptive hyperlinks using the 'name' tag
By using the name attribute in your hyperlinks you are able to help your users predict the content that will appear when they click on your hyperlink. Search engines like to know as much as they can about pages and descriptive hyperlinks help with this.
6. Strip out messy non-compliant HTML generated in Word
When you copy content from Microsoft Word a lot of unnecessary, non web-compliant code can often paste across with it. With one click you can use the Siteflex site editor's 'Strip Word HTML' function to remove any Word generated tags to make your code cleaner to parse and index.
7. Ability to set ALT tags for images
Siteflex makes it easy for you to use ALT tags everytime you use an image on your page. Be as descriptive as possible and be sure to include your keywords in your image description.
8. Images are stored in their own directory
Clean directory structures with a clear directory named 'images' makes it easy for search engines to find the location of your images directory. This can help increase the chances of your images being indexed in Google image search.
9. SmartNav provides good usability and website architecture
The SmartNav Siteflex navigation system makes your website easy for your users to navigate through. Every page automatically features a top navigation for your users to click on and with links for search engine crawlers to follow. Additionally, your internal pages can feature a left or right navigation tree that helps guide users through the internal pages in your website.
10. Custom 404 pages with search
When a page is indexed and showing up in search engine indexes but cannot be found, it will return a status message: 404 Error: File cannot be found. To help combat situations where you may have moved a page or change the page's url name, Siteflex provides custom 404 pages.
On this page it features a link back to your website and a Google search box for the user to search for the new location of the page. This is an important feature, as it prevents both users and search engine crawlers from ever reaching a 'dead end' on your website.
11. Use of breadcrumb navigation
Bread crumb navigation makes it very easy for users to see the path they are following through your website. Bread crumb navigation is text-based and the links are easily able to be spidered by search engines. Having relevant keywords in the hyperlinks shown in your website's bread crumbs can have a significant SEO benefit.
12. Easy to set URL names (short or long)
Many website management systems don't provide youw the ability to set your page names to be whatever you like and can return URL's that contain a bit of 'junk' eg: www.domain.com.au/default.asp?=1234. Siteflex allows you to choose and set your own page names, which can contain keywords eg: www.siteflex.com.au/here-is-my-page-name
13. RSS feeds for News, Events and Blogs
RSS feeds allow users to subscribe to content on your website. When a user is subscribed to your RSS feed, they will receive notifications in their RSS reader when you update your website news, events or blog. RSS feeds are also important to submit to search engines so they are notified of a new page as soon as it's available to crawl on your website.
14. Use of robots.txt
We provide a default robots.txt file for all Siteflex implementations to help identify directories to be indexed by search engines.
15. Google Analytics code is automatically inserted in to every website page
Google Analytics is a very powerful website monitoring and reporting solution with over 80 reports able to be generated on your website. Siteflex by default includes your Google Analytics script on every page to ensure they are tracked and monitored.
16. Your website name and page title will automatically appear in the header title if you haven't set a Header Title tag - no more 'untitled1' pages!
